چکیده

Circular permution Genome is a linear molecule of DNA with different terminal sequences at the population level. Physical maps of such genomes are circular. Covert infection A sublethal infection that causes no obvious changes in the appearance or behavior of the host. Cytopathic effect Alteration in the microscopic appearance of cultured cells following virus infection. MCP Major capsid protein. A highly conserved structural polypeptide of c. 50 kDa that represents about 40% of the total protein content of the virion. Patent infection Invertebrates that display iridescent hues due to an abundance of virus particles in crystalline arrays in infected cells.

Evolutionary relationships of iridoviruses and divergence of ascoviruses from invertebrate iridoviruses in the superfamily Megavirales.

The family Iridoviridae of the superfamily Megavirales currently consists of five genera. Three of these, Lymphocystivirus, Megalocytivirus and Ranavirus, are composed of species that infect vertebrates, and the other two, Chloriridovirus and Iridovirus, contain species that infect invertebrates. Until recently, the lack of genomic sequence data limited investigation of the evolutionary relatio...

The Genomic Diversity and Phylogenetic Relationship in the Family Iridoviridae

The Iridoviridae family are large viruses (∼120-200 nm) that contain a linear double-stranded DNA genome. The genomic size of Iridoviridae family members range from 105,903 bases encoding 97 open reading frames (ORFs) for frog virus 3 to 212,482 bases encoding 211 ORFs for Chilo iridescent virus. The family Iridoviridae is currently subdivided into five genera: Chloriridovirus, Iridovirus, Lymp...

Evidence for the evolution of ascoviruses from iridoviruses.

Ascoviruses (family Ascoviridae) are large, enveloped, double-stranded (ds)DNA viruses that attack lepidopteran larvae and pupae, and are unusual in that they are transmitted by parasitic wasps during oviposition. Previous comparisons of DNA polymerase sequences from vertebrate and invertebrate viruses suggested that ascoviruses are closely related to iridoviruses. This relationship was unexpec...

Proposals for a new classification of iridescent viruses.

The need for comparative studies of iridoviruses to elucidate the relationships between them has been well appreciated. Sixteen iridoviruses, including type species from each of the four recognized genera of the Iridoviridae, were compared by restriction endonuclease characterization, hybridization to the major structural protein (MSP) gene of an invertebrate iridescent virus (IV) isolate at va...
